Relay 0.6.8
New
- Set up a key backup from Settings > Encryption. Relay shows your recovery key once; if your account had no secret storage, the same key also unlocks your message history in other apps such as Element.
- Click Back Up Now to upload the message keys that are waiting instead of waiting for Relay to do it.
- Click Restore from Key Backup on a message that can't be decrypted to recover it from your backup.
Improved
- Settings > Encryption shows whether Relay is actually backing up your keys (Active, Not in Use, or Not Active), with how many keys are backed up and how many are waiting.
- Relay adds new message keys to your key backup automatically, once this session is verified or the backup is signed by a device you trust.
- Restore Key Backup uses the backup key kept on this Mac instead of asking your other devices, and keeps it between launches.
- Encrypted rooms switch to fresh keys when someone leaves, and share them with people who join or sign in on a new device.
- Relay shares your encryption keys only with your own verified sessions, and ignores room keys that aren't genuine.
- Switching rooms and sending messages respond faster, your message appears the moment you send it, and mention suggestions no longer stall.
- Edits and thread replies in encrypted rooms are encoded according to spec.
- The space rail uses the standard material background.
Fixed
- Reading a newer message no longer makes older ones in the same conversation show "Key does not cover this message". Messages already affected come back after you restore from your key backup.
- "Duplicate encrypted message" no longer appears when a conversation reloads.
- Polls, votes, and poll endings in encrypted rooms now show up as polls.
